Putrajaya ePrix to start early again this Saturday

The Malaysian ePrix electric car race in Putrajaya last year.
PUTRAJAYA: The Formula E organisers have taken preventive measures for fear of inclement weather this weekend.
Well aware of the fickle local weather conditions, they have moved forward Saturday’s race at Putrajaya by two hours for the second successive year.
The Putrajaya ePrix race will now start at 2pm.
There will only be one practice session – at 7.45am - for 75 minute, which is the combined practice time of the two normal sessions. Qualifying will start at 10am.
Weather aside, it’s all systems go for the second round of the championship on Saturday.
The season kicked off in Beijing on Oct 17 and, after Putrajaya, the drivers will travel to eight other countries, including France, the United States and Russia.
The season will reach its climax in London early next year.
Last season, each team used identical cars. This year, they are allowed to tinker.
Each team will now have customised drivetrains and gears, although each car must use the same battery power unit made by Williams.
Formula E chief executive officer Alejandro Agag said the second season promises to be even more exciting.
“This is the first time that there’s going to be a race between different technologies in different cars,” he said.
“It’s fascinating ... some teams have gone for two motors, one motor, four gears, two gears, no gears – there is a really wide approach in terms of technology to this competition.”
It also helps that the sport has attracted some big names. Former F1 world champion Jacques Villeneuve joined this season to add his name to a list that already includes the likes of Bruno Senna, Nelson Piquet, Nick Heidfeld, Jean-Eric Vergne and Sam Bird, who won in Putrajaya last year.
Swiss driver Sebastien Buemi of Renault e.Dams emerged victorious from pole position in the Beijing ePrix last month.
